GEODESIC DOME

 

 

Housing,Building and Planning first year students had been asked to constuct one project which was we have to make our own mini geodesic dome for subject Introduction to Build Environment and Human Settlement (RAG132). The lecturer that involved in this project was Dr. Mohd Hafizal Mohd Isa. We must assembled for the dome by Wednesday on 1st October 2014 from 11.00 am to 1 pm at convo ground which was near the Dewan Tuanku Syed Putra.

 

Before the presentation day, we have been divided into a few groups. My group consists of 9 members surprisingly we were all females. We are the only group that did not have male in our members. We were given a week to think about the designed, materials to be use and also think on how to construct a dome. Within a week, we have to finish the dome and present it in front others. 

 

Our intention was to design a sustainable geodesic dome that fulfil all the rules given :

·         Zero cost

·         Prefabricated

·         Accommodate by 5 people

·         Can be carry by 3 people

·         Assembled in 30 minutes

·         Life span: 1 month

·         Recyclable

·         Transforming 'Identity'

 

The elements consists:

·         intention

·         rules

·         actor

·         site

·         action

·         product

 

For this project we use bamboo, duct tape, raffia string and many more. We all together work hard to finished the dome. Finally, the result was impressive and the dome were designed uniquely.

In a nutshell,  we were able to constuct a strong structure of geodesic dome. People were surprised by our geodesic dome. For the test of our geodesic dome, we have to face the weather of wind,rain and etc. So we have to makesure that our geodesic dome was strong. Eventhough, the shape and the appearance was not so good enough but the result was impressive. In addition, we learnt to work together as a team and give our cooperation in order to finish this geodesic dome. I take this opportunity to thank to all my members for your commitment in doing this geodesic dome and still work hard eventhough you were all tired and sleepy and not to forget, to Dr. Mohd Hafisal Mohd Isa for the happiest, fun and colourful presentation day for our geodesic dome.
